Brisbane Marine Pilots provides this information to assist ships coming to the Port of Brisbane prepare and plan their passage. Please review the Pre Arrival Information and follow the instructions. This will greatly assist the bridge team in their ability to support and monitor the Pilot. On boarding the Pilot will confirm all Pre Arrival preparations are complete to their satisfaction before passing the Fairway Beacon.
We would like to make your passage as safe and streamlined as possible. Each of our Pilots will work with the bridge team to facilitate this outcome. The bridge team plays a vital role in monitoring the Pilot. Our goal is for any errors to be detected in a timely way and to ensure single person errors cannot go undetected.
Some particular points of note:
- The Pilot does not assume a designated lookout role. The Master is responsible for ensuring proper lookout arrangements are in place. At times there can be significant small recreational and fishing vessel traffic.
- The Master should assess Weather conditions and the tug allocation. If in doubt additional services should be booked. This will avoid delays and expense associated with ordering additional services, if it is deemed necessary, when the Pilot boards.
Please make your crew aware of the Seafarer Welfare information available on this website. Hopefully this will make their stay a little more enjoyable.
Masters and officers in charge of a navigational watch remain responsible for the safe navigation of their ships at all times including when a port or coastal pilot is on board. The master should ensure that the bridge remains adequately manned and under the responsibility of a certificated officer in charge of a navigational watch.
